Waiting on #TheRona Money

This is day 30 of #Quarantine for me... and I am still waiting on the benefits to roll in like most people. We are struggling, we are missing human/physical connection, we are broke, we are frustrated and we want to go outside! Speaking of work, my last day due to #Covid19 #CoronaVirus was March 17th and here it is almost April 17th and I am NOT okay.
I started my new job February 25th and I hadn't worked a full month before Quarantine started then the city lockdown a few days later. Recently, I applied for unemployment benefits knowing it would be a 3-4 week wait to receive it, but hey we have nothing but time now! Friends of mine have started receiving benefits and family and friends are reminding me with texts like "Checks came" and "Check your bank account" day by day.
It's been two weeks and I have neither so I'm annoyed, but I also understand patience. The crazy thing is, for a minute I thought that the stimulus check and the unemployment benefits were the same thing, I've discovered they are not... so that's MONEY MONEY.
In recent weeks, everyone has been buying everything off the shelves like it's the end of the world! The Clorox, Lysol, bleach, tissue and sanitizer shelves are completely empty and people are having to go to 3-4 different stores in hopes of finding the "essential items" they want.
Last week, I went to Family Dollar, WalMart, Menards and Jewel's just to find a trash can, toilet tissue, Lysol spray and Clorox wipes. The lines to get into some of these places are ridiculously long and when you finally get to the door it's a two person limit entry.
Once inside the stores, everyone has on gloves and face masks. Shoppers are wiping their carts down, spaced out 6 feet apart or more from each other (floors are marked with tape or stickers) and lines are from the register to the back of the store.
"The Rona" has made the U.S. obsess over "essential items", but also it has made people care more about practicing cleanliness and "social distancing" to keep down the spread of this deadly virus.
Being in quarantine for an extended amount of time has everyone craving their freedom. Some people don't have the option of "working from home", or we are declining in motivation and productivity.
Being on lockdown has motivated me to make daily checklist of things to do to keep me busy, workout again and spend quality time with my family and my dog. I've grown to appreciate video-chatting with friends more than I thought I would and check on extended family. Also, it influenced me to create this blog since there isn't much else for me to do, but let's be honest the struggle is real and we're craving those checks!
Thank for you for reading, supporting and commenting on my first story. Means a lot to me!
I like your breakdown of how the virus is affecting our hygiene habits and spending tendencies. I'm glad you're adjusting to the quarantine by scheduling your day and reaching out to loved ones. :)
