Quarantine and the city lock-down has resulted in a lot of us learning more about "self care" or finding new ways to practice it. The definition of "self care" is practicing the act of taking care of one's happiness, wellness and health during times of stress.

During this time of stress, people are working out, painting, journaling, trying new hair, skin and nail routines, practicing self-love, yoga, baking you name it!

I knew about self care before learning it was a thing. Back in high school, I would visit the nail shop once a month for a full-set gel manicure and binge watch my favorite TV shows. In college, I was into charcoal detoxifying and skin brightening face masks and discovering more natural hair techniques for styling and moisture (buying all kinds of hair products).

Today we are living in a much different time. The only places that are open are places deemed "essential", selling sanitizer, tissue, water, cleansing wipes, masks and gloves like pharmacies and grocery stores.

I practice self care by video-chatting with various friends each week through social media apps. I make my own face masks based on recipes I find on Pinterest. I exfoliate my face/body with a spin-brush or scrub, and I listen to music as I soak in the bathtub with Dr. Teal's Rosemary and Mint Epsom Salt (it's the best wellness therapy product I've tried!).

Practicing self care is so easy! It can be as simple as taking time out to read a book, exfoliating your hands/feet/body, creating oil blends for your scalp/hair, practicing your makeup skills or clipping your nails.

If neither of those are your jam, you can practice meditation, write reflectively, spend time with loved ones/pets, sing/dance, pray or spend time in nature... honestly the list goes on.

Getting involved in self care is super important to your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual well-being and happiness. It is basically doing whatever you want or need to improve yourself and make you feel good internally and externally.

"Self Care" is for anyone and the smallest things can make a big difference.
