As the seasons change, so should your natural hair care regimen/routine. From Fall to Winter and Spring to Summer, if you have any grade of natural hair (kinky, coily, curly, wavy), the products used on your hair and scalp should definitely go from light to thick. In the colder months of the year, your hair has to be shown so much more care because the drops in temperature can do some real damage.

In the winter, naturals have to deal with brittleness, breakage, dandruff, dry scalp, split ends, lack of moisture and more and the best way to remedy all of that is simply what you use.

Personally, I've seen the most growth and healthiness my hair has ever experienced by mixing 4-6 thick textured oils and applying them every 3 days to my scalp, hair and ends.

First, using thicker oils or moisturizers really help hair retain moisture, treats dandruff and dryness issues, strengthens and hydrates, adds shine and protects from damage.

Thick/Heavy Moisturizers:

- Olive Oil

- Vitamin E

- Jamaican Black Castor Oil or mixed with Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Argan, Tea Tree, Rosemary

- Mango Butter

- Shea Butter

- Cocoa Butter

-Tucuma Butter

- Kokum Butter

- Murumuru Butter

- Ucuuba Butter

- Babassu Oil

- Avocado Oil

- Jojoba Oil

- Almond Oil

- Coconut Oil

Second, trying moisturizing hair treatments can help your natural hair a lot. There are a lot of treatments that help fight brittleness, dryness, dandruff, split ends, frizz and oiliness.

Perfect hair treatments:

Almond Oil + Banana (for damage, frizz, moisture)

Olive Oil + Brown Sugar + Honey (hair scrub)

Baking Soda + Jojoba Oil + Ginger or Lemon Juice (for excessive build-up, oily hair)

Avocado + Egg + Honey + Peppermint Oil (for softness, shine, moisture)

Olive Oil + Honey (for dryness)

Honey + Milk (for brittleness)

Banana + Honey + Yogurt (for frizz)

Almond Oil + Honey + Apple Cider Vinegar(dilute with water, THIS IS STRONG, for split ends)

Banana + Almond Oil + Honey (for frizz)

Milk + Oats + Almond Oil (for oily, greasy hair, dandruff relief)

Avocado + Honey + Olive Oil (for softness, shine, moisture)

Third, deep conditioning your hair is very helpful in fighting dry hair and split ends. Deep conditioning should happen once a week as well as hot oil treatments, which helps replenish and seal moisture in the scalp and stimulate blood flow. Do both for 30-45 mins!

Fourth, trim your ends! Fall/Winter weather causes hair to become more split and damaged.

Fifth, be gentle with your curls, take your time! Instead of comb detangling, try finger detangling while oils and leave in conditioners are in your hair and on the ends to avoid breakage and shedding.

Sixth, do protective styles, protective styles don't require your hands being in and out of your head. Protective styles do exactly that, protects your hair while giving your hands a break for weeks at a time, but you must keep your hair moisturized every couple of days.

Seventh, wear satin or silk lined hats, scarves, wraps, and bonnets when exposed to cold air to protect your hair from dryness. You can wear scarves and bonnets under your hats or hoods. Sleeping in these are a must + a silk or satin pillowcase!

Eighth, practice the L.O.C method, your hair will thank you! LOC stands for leave in conditioner, oil and cream/butter. Trying this method will help your hair and scalp retain moisture and hydration during the cold months of the year.

Trying or even switching to these simple natural hair care tips will change how your hair looks, feels and grows. They are life changing for naturals! Thank me later :)
